Amarok is a wonderful tool for playing and managing music. There is a lot you can do with this music player: manage the music in your collection, play audio tracks, view lyrics and other music info, play online radio stations, manage cover art for the tracks in your collection, use scripts, mark positions in tracks, and more.

Amarok is a cross-platform application. The music player is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and multiple Linux distributions. Amarok, it must be mentioned, is part of the KDE project. Amarok has been around for more than a decade; the application was first rolled out to the public in June 2003. Fun fact: Amarok is the Inuktitut word for "wolf" – that’s why there’s a wolf on the application’s icon and interface.

To get Amarok up and running on a Windows-powered PC you will have to complete a standard installation process: download and run an installer, follow the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard. Said wizard will allow you to select the components that will be installed on your PC: Amarok core files, Snore (OSD notifications), Languages (English, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Romanian, Turkish, and many more).

Here’s a list that focuses on the main things you can do with Amarok: manage a collection of music files; play any file in your collection; view lyrics; view Wikipedia info; edit audio track details; display, fetch cover for audio tracks; manage cover art; equalizer; create playlists; listen to online radio stations; keyboard shortcuts; and more. Released under a GNU General Public License (GPL), Amarok is free and open source software. This means you have all the time in the world to uncover all the features it has to offer.

Amarok is free, it is available for multiple platforms, and it is a properly good music player!

Pros

Amarok is a cross-platform application; it is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and multiple Linux distributions. You will quickly figure out the interface. Lots of features to help you manage your collection of music are offered. Amarok is free and open source.
